The olympic definitions regarding Kayaks classify them as a type of boat used in the olympic sport of Canoeing , where Canoe is a generic plan shape for the hull of a boat. In other words, the Kayak is a type of Canoe. A Kayak is an Eskimo/Inuit decked canoe, as originally used by the menfolk to hunt and fish.

Plurals[edit]

The original (Inuktituk) plural of "kayak" is "kayait" (as per, among other sources, http://canadianart.ca/features/mark-igloliorte/ and http://www.nunatsiavut.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/CCO-Newsletter-Summer-2013.pdf ).
