Which Russian word?

[edit]

Is it матрёшка (matrjóška) or матушка (mátuška)? The word матушка is a pet word for mother - mum, mummy - a little rustic or obsolete. --Anatoli 13:20, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

You are right. I corrected the etymology accordingly. --Hekaheka 14:20, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, in the English Wikipedia, they explain that The word "matryoshka" (матрёшка) is derived from the Russian female first name "Matryona" (Матрёна). --Anatoli 20:43, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
