I looked up "Mechanics" in the Wiktionary to find out what it meant in the field of writing. What do we mean when we talk about the mechanics of writing? I did not find anything related to this idea. I assume it refers to the generally acceptable form or format of things that we write: words (spelling), punctuation, sentences, and paragraphs. Does it also refer to layout?
