This word has a tricky etymology, and I'm reluctant to add it. Etimo.it proposes an unattested *mentionea or, apparently, *mentiumnia for the etymology. But my French etymology dictionary and the French Wiktionary propose Vulgar Latin *mentionica for the source of mensonge, an obvious cognate of menzogna. 75.132.142.26 14:38, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
