Etymology[edit]

@JohnC5 Nothing to do with the Ancient Greek μιξόγλωττος (mixóglōttos)? — I.S.M.E.T.A. 08:27, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@I'm so meta even this acronym Whence cometh this word μιξόγλωττος (mixóglōttos)? —JohnC5 13:50, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@JohnC5: From the title page of the “Nomenclator” of Johann Jacob Hofmann’s 1698 Lexicon Universale. — I.S.M.E.T.A. 19:11, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@I'm so meta even this acronym So, without evidence of a direct ancestor form in AG, I'm more inclined to say that mixoglossia and μιξόγλωττος were separate coinages based on analogy (idioglossia and πολῠ́γλωττος (polúglōttos) for respective examples) rather than cognates. —JohnC5 23:02, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@JohnC5: Sounds good; I agree. Shall we list μιξόγλωττος as a cf. here? — I.S.M.E.T.A. 19:00, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
