Definition[edit]

Currently, the definition states:

myocardium (plural myocardia)

1. (anatomy, cardiology) The middle of the three layers forming the wall of the heart.

This is insufficiently precise, technically incorrect, and unsupported by the entry for myocardium in the second external link (The Century Dictionary, The Century Co., New York, 1911). (The first external link Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary, G. & C. Merriam, 1913 is currently not working.)

The Century Dictionary states merely that the myocardium is The muscular substance of the heart.

Further, as the Wikipedia entry for the heart makes clear, the myocardium is the muscular layer found in the middle layer of the three layers forming the outer wall of the human heart.

I am amending the entry accordingly to read:

myocardium (plural myocardia)

1. (anatomy, cardiology) The muscular substance of the heart; the middle of the three layers forming the outer wall of the human heart.

I am including also an external link to the Wikipedia entry for the heart. 58.164.138.229 05:01, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
