Possible missing sense[edit]
John Camden Hotten's Slang Dictionary (1873) has "neddy, a considerable quantity, as 'a neddy of fruit,' 'a neddy of fish,' etc.—Irish slang." I can't find actual usage in Google Books, though there seems to be a linguistic discussion of how it might have come from "an eddy". Equinox ◑ 14:44, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
