First usage?

[edit]

Lexico says this word was first used by Bernard Kops in the 60s but the earliest I could find on GoogleBooks was 2000, so I added that quote. If we can prove it dates from before 1997 then it blows the online theory that the word comes from the Teletubbies character Noo-noo out of the water (though perhaps not the rival theory that it comes from a corruption of ‘nun’). Shortened form nun/noon?

[edit]

Not only does the shortened form nun/noon appear in celebrity GoggleBox (spoken by Anne-Marie) but I’ve just heard it used on S17E5 of ordinary Gogglebox (spoken by the gay hairdresser) Overlordnat1 (talk) 23:42, 13 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
