Latin Etymology[edit]

The Latin etymology needs work. Both Chantraine (1968) and Beekes & Beek (2009) agree that, while olīva and oleum are early borrowings from Greek, the Greek is not from a native Proto-Indoeuropean root. It is a borrowing from some sort of Mediterranean substrate, and a PIE root should not be constructed to accommodate it. Kavindad1 (talk) 09:55, 11 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
