English[edit]

Spelling[edit]

Also spelled opposit. E.g. RICHARD C. TOLMAN; “Equilibria in dispersed systems and the thermodynamic theory of theory of colloids”; Journal of the American Chemical Society; American Chemical Society; April 1913; 35 (4): pp. 317–333. (consistent with his use of "definit" throughout).

Yes, but most of the books.google.com hits are from 19th century or older, modern reprints of old texts or written and published by a non-English party. Hekaheka 10:33, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And this matters how? I created an entry opposit with byspels all from the 20th Century (one quoting the 19th century). But it doesn't matter. I could put in numerous cites from websites and blogs. Opposit is alive and well. --AnWulf ... Ferþu Hal! (talk) 19:17, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Postpositive adjectival use[edit]

A usage note about its Postpositive adjectival use would be on point https://www.wordreference.com/EnglishUsage/opposite#1 --Backinstadiums (talk) 12:29, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

facing ?[edit]

Opposite as a preposition means ‘in a position facing someone or something but on the other side’ --Backinstadiums (talk) 18:01, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

shortening of "opposite to"[edit]

Opposite may also be used as a preposition, in which case it is a shortening of opposite to --Backinstadiums (talk) 19:13, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
