IS the 2nd "transitive" sense really transitive? The use in the example is not. I don't know enough about this word to make the call. Also... anyone care to figure out whether this is ergative, and if so, categorize it as [[English ergative verbs]]? I can't tell... Language Lover 02:59, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is transitive, that is a poor example sentence. "He overplayed his hand" is a common phrase in that sense. - [The]DaveRoss 03:02, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
