meaning of "-adic" in p-adic[edit]

If you look up -adic in the wiktionary it says "having (a given number of) parameters". In this case, the suffix -adic has more to do with the base of the number than its parameters. Is that an accepted meaning of the suffix?—GraemeMcRaetalk 22:54, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Wikipedia article relates it to the endings of dyadic and triadic. For the former we have the sense "pertaining to the number two".— Pingkudimmi 05:28, 22 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
