Italian etymology

I doubt that Italian passare is from the Latin verb patior, pati, passus sum, "to endure". It is rather derived from the supine passum of the verb pando, "to stretch (the leg)". The noun passus (5 ft, 1.48 m; step) is definitely from pando, pandere, pansum/passum. — This unsigned comment was added by 81.0.245.11 (talk) at 21:51, 1 August 2010 (UTC).
