A note on variations in placement of apostrophe:
- AHD lists philosophers' stone first, then philosopher's stone second.
- Collins only lists philosopher's stone
- Encarata lists philosopher's stone first, then philosophers' stone second.
- M-W lists philosophers' stone first, then philosopher's stone second.
That seems like a 50/50 split - surprising. It would be nice to see some early citations. — Hippietrail 20:30, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
