@GianWiki: Would you know the etymology of this term? My French etymological says French piston comes from Italian pistone, but I wonder if it isn't the other way around (that is, pistone would be a reborrowing from French, which would itself be a borrowing from Italian pestone). --Barytonesis (talk) 23:08, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Treccani web dictionary, Italian pistone comes from French piston, which itself comes from Italian pistone (a variant form of pestone). It seems you were right. -- GianWiki (talk) 22:58, 28 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
