None of the google books hits [1] for "pootled" appear to be about walking. Kappa 04:55, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some of the ones I found were about cycling, some about dancing, but the first use I heard was about walking. It was that use that prompted me to begin looking for the word. --EncycloPetey 17:02, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Any connection to footle?
[edit]

If there is no connection, the similarity in meaning to footle is remarkable. There is also that the meaning of footle is, or has become, somewhat less vulgar than its French origin / counterpart. Could footle have softened in meaning under the influence of pootle / tootle, or could pootle have inherited some meaning the other way but after footle had softened? Or, as I suspect is more likely (but also cannot prove), have they co-evolved? 84.66.147.115 23:24, 22 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
