Ram goat[edit]

An anonymous editor added the billy goat sense a year ago. I've removed it because I can find no evidence of this usage in standard English (only in confused translations). The OED does not record the usage. Dbfirs 07:47, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Possible missing senses[edit]

Chambers 1908 has ram, adjective, "strong-scented" and "(used as a prefix) very", from which they derived ram-cat, a tomcat. Obsolete, UK, regional. Equinox 21:54, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

If it's Northern English dialect "rancid, offensive in smell" (cf Scots ram (a rank odour)) then perhaps it's from the Norse ramr (strong, rank, bitter). Leasnam (talk) 22:07, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
