A retired RN tells me that intravenous saline solution normally contains dextrose as well as salt (5% dextrost + sufficient salt to match the normal concentration in blood). JillianE 20:36, 10 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation[edit]

This entry's pronunciation seems to be a lot more complex, according to my dictionary. It lists /ˈseɪlaɪn/ for the adjective, which can also be /ˈseɪliːn/ in the US. For the noun the British pronunciation is /səˈlaɪn/, while the American is /ˈseɪlaɪn/. Any of these can be archaic, obsolete or dated, since my dictionary is quite old, but they should exist. Can anyone confirm it? Thanks in advance, Ferike333 19:05, 10 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

In the U.S., I believe it is only /ˈseɪliːn/. I have never heard /ˈseɪlaɪn/ before, but it might be archaic or obsolete. —Stephen 22:12, 11 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
