Definition of "screeching brakes" (and a a must-read physics lesson)[edit]
The original informal definition was "To travel very fast, as if making the sounds of brakes being released." Releasing brakes means to take your foot off. I'm not sure I have the best definition, but that screeching sound occurs when cars accelerate, decelerate, or go around a corner. I originally wrote:
- "To travel very fast, as if making the sounds of brakes when a car is accelerating."
To a physics teacher like me, all are forms of acceleration (deceleration is simply negative acceleration.) As I write this, it just occurred to me that all are associated with a person driving too fast. I will go back and see if I can explain in a way that does not require a physics lecture (the external link is essential reading.)--Guy vandegrift (talk) 10:45, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
