Swedish ⟨rts⟩ /ʈʂ/[edit]
As far as I can tell, when the sound is retroflexed in Swedish, it will affect all following retroflexable consonants after it (or at least those part of the same cluster). So when R changes T to /ʈ/, it will also turn the S into /ʂ/ instead of just /s/. I have listened to the sound from SO: https://svenska.se/tre/?sok=shorts and I think it's clearly /ɧoːʈʂ/ (∫ in SO represents ɧ in IPA). SO doesn't mark /ʈ/ or /ʂ/, and will instead include the initial R, but I think the audio makes it clear. Personally, as a native Swedish speaker, I also find it tricky to say /ʈs/ and much easier to say /ʈʂ/. Not that natives have the final say, especially since some natives can't pronounce /ɧ/ anyway.
I have changed the /s/ to /ʂ/ in the article, but have written this section in case this change is worth a discussion. Liggliluff (talk) 09:16, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
