Turtle[edit]

When I lived in Louisiana, this was a kind of turtle as well, a "Snapper turtle". --Cromwellt|Talk|Contris 18:39, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Missing sense?[edit]

Something like a crux or punchline: "Very often, of course, the rambling and disjointed humorous story finishes with a nub, point, snapper, or whatever you like to call it." - Mark Twain. Equinox 06:16, 18 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Which archaic sense is this?[edit]

It could be somebody who snaps, i.e. speaks sharply, or perhaps some other slang.

  • 1829, Melodist, and Mirthful Olio
This lass, Nelly Long, she was dressish and dapper,
And, though our Dick was a good looked lad,
She snubb'd him, scop'd him, for she was a snapper,
And told him quite plumpish—she wan't to be had: []
