Other usages -

coal staithe (maritime) - seems to be a wharf with a chute for loading vessels

coal staithe - (railway) a timber built enclosure with one open side in a railway yard, used for storing coal. Coal delivered by rail was hand loaded into the staithe and then on-loaded to delivery - sometimes after being transferred to sacks.
