I have deleted "gierigheid" as a translation of 'thrift', because "gierigheid" means 'stinginess'; the two are wholly different. Rachid12051 (talk) 06:53, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also a kind of chisel?[edit]

Seen in the reminiscences of a miller born in 1908: "With a foot long wooden mallet, which had a hole though the head of it, into which you slid a ten inch long tapered steel chisel (this tool was called a thrift) held in both hands, you worked your way around the stones cutting out new deep furrows." OED: "The handle (usu. wooden) of a mill bill, which is fixed in a mortise in the thick head of the handle." DTLHS (talk) 17:46, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
