It really seems like definition 2, uncounted, should be "untolled". This has always puzzled me. "Untolled debt" is not secret debt, it is un-counted or uncountable debt. — This comment was unsigned.

But look at where the word came from. It is telling (!) that modern "tell" is from Middle and Old English words that have both meanings. Only recently has the "count, tally" sense diminished in importance. DCDuring TALK 16:05, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
