Template talk:Webster 1913

Location on the page: end of References section?

Reading anent, I noticed bad formatting (in Foxfire 14 for Windows 7, at least) at the beginniof the References section, caused by an asterisk before the Webster 1913 template, creating a bullet covering part of the text.

While fixing this, I decided to double-check where this template should be placed. There was no documentation connected to this Template, and while spot-checking randomly chosen pages using the What links here tool, I found the template used at the end of the References section, at the end of the page, and right under the main header.

It would be useful to have a suggested place for this template, perhaps even an option built into the template to indicate how much of the page the template is referring to: the whole page, a particular word, or a particular definition.

I wish I could do more than point this out, so I thank you in advance for any follow-up on this minor point. I'll put this template at the end of the References section on the anent page.

Edit request: Make a title plain/roman text

@Sgconlaw: Since you're the most recent editor of this template (though anyone else will do): In the output text, please change "Webster’s Dictionary" from italics to roman/plain text, and vice versa in the "Usage" section. —DocWatson42 (talk) 06:54, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

New url needed

We need to change the url, for example to https://www.webster-dictionary.org/definition/whatever Same with Template:R:Webster 1913Br00pVain (talk) 02:20, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

Bad Wikipedia link

w:Webster's Dictionary, 1913 doesn't exist. Maybe you want w:Webster's Dictionary#Webster's New International Dictionary 1909 instead Entre Pinto y Valdemorro (talk) 16:58, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

Need a parameter that suppresses the second sentence when the warnings that it gives are no longer applicable to the particular instance

Why this is necessary: Still want to give due credit (attribution) to the source of some of the def wording/phrasing, but no longer want to tell the user that the defs may be outdated or incomplete because the particular instance has already been checked and fixed in that regard. I would just do it myself but I am not enough of a template coder. Maybe I'll try to learn enough to do this task. Quercus solaris (talk) 05:52, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
