Are we ready to start adding again? I propose "rocks". Very common in my part of the midwest.— This unsigned comment was added by Feran1 (talkcontribs) at 17:44, 29 October 2009.

Various 2006[edit]

To TheDaveRoss: Yes the list was hugely over populated. But the answer is to categorise/sort some of the list, and put it virtually as an appendix. As it is, in your huge deletion you have deleted

  • some common words
  • a lot of someone's effort

And please, WikiSaurus is not the place to stat getting tough on words. --Richardb 03:50, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree, it is the place to start getting tough, especially since 90% of the words you restored are nonce, invented for the page and likely never to be seen again in the language. If someone who was looking for a synonym for 'breasts' to use in some writing visited this site the current page is patently useless, and the point of WikiSaurus is to be valid, not a garbage dump. If you feel that it was better before, I challenge you to use any of the following in conversation in place of breasts and see if you are understood: 'off-on volume and the channel selector', 'Bronx Bombers', 'Charlie's Angels', 'chimpanzees', 'circus tents'...etc. The VAST majority is tosh, I moved them all (didn't delete) to an RFV page so that the actual page could be considered accurate even though it was incomplete, with the intention that people (including myself) could sort through the list of RFV and verify them before they were given the validation of being listed on WikiSaurus (as if that means anything, UrbanDict is more authoritative at this point.) You restoring the page made it useless once more, and if you plan on doing the same every time I sort a *saurus to an RFV you can count me out of trying to clean the place up. - TheDaveRoss 05:03, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dave, sure you meant well, but you were far too keen to clean up an area that doesn't really need a clean up at all. Having WikiSaurus full of these "fun" words saves people making entries for them in the main dictionary. Please do your best at cleaning up the Wiktionary main, and particulary I suspect the 1000 basic words list still needs work. But don't be so aggressive in cleaning up a little experimental area whose reasons for being I suspect you have not really looked into. Consider also if some foreign language student came across "the phrase "Bronx Bombers" in abook or film, they should be able to look it up in Wiktionary. The WikiSaurus helps a lot there. It is not meant just as a place for looking for suitable synonyms. You find a word, and then go to the dictionary definition to see if it's suitable (if a definition exists. If it doesn't then odds are the word is not in common usage and probably not to be used)

I started a bit of clean up on [WikiSaurus:sexual intercourse]], segrgating the "good" from the patently crap. Can this idea be used here too ?--Richardb 05:21, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So take off the request for deletion already. It is a thesaurus/dictionary. They idea is to understand a term or find a different way of saying something. Unless the entry is vandalism, let it stay. I was looking for slang from other languages for inclusion in an outside writing. I regret there was not a section (yet?) for that. Luxomni 13:59, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

latest attempt at a reasonable page[edit]

I have removed the nonsense, this time around. I suggest that if having reasonable entries is not acceptable, then we should not have Wikisaurus entries.

This page is not semi-protected, for now, to see if I should have any faith in the human race. I'd appreciate some cooperation from other sysops, and request it be semi-protected, if not completely protected, as a result of the massive amount of ridiculous terms entered.

Translations[edit]

I wanted to add the japanese terms "pai" and "dekapai" for "breasts" and "big breasts" respectively ... but, the page was protected, so that became a bit difficult. Also, I know not the kanji/katakana/hiragana for those terms. Any suggestions? InitHello 11:32, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kept. See archived discussion of 10 2006. 10:53, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Phrasing of "30,000 Google Hits"[edit]

I think the lead paragraphs of both the WS:breast and the WS:breast/more entries, when we talk about "used is fewer [or less] than 30,000 hits on Google", is confusing. Wouldn't it be better to say something like (for WS:breast) "Terms with MORE than 30,000 hits on Google are listed here; terms with less than 30,000 google hits are listed in WS:breast/more" and (for WS:breast/more) "Terms with LESS than 30,000 hits on Google are listed here; terms with more than 30,000 google hits are listed in WS:breast". Yes, you can figure it out with a moment's thought but our job is to make it easier for casual readers.

I will change both paragraphs to something similar to what I mentioned above, unless there are objections. --RoyGoldsmith 22:44, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mangos[edit]

Mangos is another common term for female breasts

Norks[edit]

Common working-class Australian slang for breasts

This is one I'm surprised doesn't have an inclusion. Has a crass poetic appeal, and has a significant popularity - not just in Australia. Fantastic etymology as well - http://www.victoria.org.au/Nork.htm. PuppyOnTheRadio (talk) 08:23, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bazookas[edit]

Large breasts

Ladies[edit]

Yabos[edit]

I noticed Yabos is missing from this list. To my memory, it was a pretty common slang in Mafia Dramas, both TV and Film, 1970-2000.
