Etymology[edit]
First attested as Valom in 1899. Derived from Dutch Low Saxon valom (“ruin, building that can collapse at any moment”). The settlement derives its name from an incident in 1877 during which three houses were destroyed by a storm. Compare Kijkuit, Kopaf, De Omval, Pasop and Rolaf.
