Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested with certainty as ypekaldege in 1245. Borrowed from West Frisian Ypekolsgea, or uncertain etymology. Proposed derivations from a compound of Old Frisian Ipe (a personal name), kol (elevated place) and (village, village area) or a corruption of *Hippolitusga do not match with the oldest attestations.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈi.pə.kɔlsˌɣaː/
  • Hyphenation: Ype‧cols‧ga

Proper noun[edit]
