Etymology[edit]
Literally, “breadroll with monkey”. From Broodje Aap. De folklore van de post-industriële samenleving, a book by Ethel Portnoy from 1978 in which she collected several urban legends, including one about a hotdog factory processing primates in their hotdogs.
