Vietnamese[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Sino-Vietnamese word from 機關.

The modern senses are from Japanese 機関 (kikan), while the obsolete sense of "mechanics, mechanism" is directly from Middle Chinese 機關 (kɨi kˠuan).
