Etymology

con (child) +‎ nít (small (of a child)); the second element is from Proto-Vietic *ɗiːt (small), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *kɗit ~ *kɗiit ~ *kɗiət. Cognate with Riang [Lang] kᵊndiət² ("small"), Khasi khyndiat (few, little), Mon ဍောတ်.
