Etymology[edit]

Possibly from Proto-Albanian *ən-tersā, from Proto-Indo-European *ters- (dry), identical with djerr 'barren land', cognate to Ancient Greek τέρσομαι (térsomai), Sanskrit तृष्यति (tṛṣyati), Old English þurst and Latin terra. Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *widertjā, from *swidertjā, from pre-Albanian *swidrotyeh₂, from Proto-Indo-European *sweyd- (compare Greek ιδρός (idrós), English sweat, Italian sudore)[1].
