From Proto-Albanian *widertjā, with loss of the first unstressed syllable, from Proto-Indo-European *sweyd- (compare Ancient Greek ἱδρώς (hidrṓs), English sweat, Italian sudore).[1] For Albanian d < PIE *sw compare diell.
