Etymology[edit]
From Old Norse *féaðr, whence also Faroese fíggjaður; derived from fé + -aðr (equivalent to modern Icelandic fé + -aður).

- wealthy, having plenty of money
- (with adverbial qualifiers such as vel (“well”) or illa (“badly”)) of such and such means
- vel fjáður ― well-to-do
- illa fjáður ― of meager means
