From Proto-Albanian *spurtˢa, from Proto-Indo-European *spr̥ḱ- (compare Latin spurcus (dirty), Sanskrit पृश्नि (pṛśni, speckled)). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *awa-ruđa, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rewdʰ- (red) (compare pruth).[1]
