From Malay gemas, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *gemes. Cognate with Javanese gemes, Mongondow gomot.

  1. annoyed, irritated, frustrated
    Saya sangat gemas pada anak itu karena selalu mengotori lantai.
    I'm very annoyed with that kid for always making a mess on the floor.
  2. carried away from intense emotion (usually in response to cuteness), moved emotionally to do something physical
    Gemas aku melihat kucing ini
    I get carried away when I look at this cat (I could eat it up).
