[edit]From Malay jendela, from Portuguese janela, from Vulgar Latin *januella, diminutive of Latin jānua, alternative spelling of iānua (“door, double-doored entrance”), from Iānus (“Janus, Roman god of gates and doorways”), perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ey- (“to go”).
