From Old Irish dess (right-hand; south; right, just; convenient, agreeable), from Proto-Celtic *dexswos, from Proto-Indo-European *deḱswo-, from *deḱs- (right-hand side). Cognate with Irish deas and Scottish Gaelic deas.
