Sekigitaj kariofiloj

Etymology[edit]

From New Latin caryophyllus, from Ancient Greek καρυόφυλλον (karuóphullon), from κάρυον (káruon, nut) + φύλλον (phúllon, leaf); the definition is a phono-semantic adaptation from a Semitic language (compare Arabic قَرَنْفُل (qaranful)). Cognates include Italian garofano, French girofle, Greek γαρύφαλλο (garýfallo), Romanian calomfir (costmary).
