Turkish[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish قاوشمق (kavuşmak), from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (qavušmaq), from *qabuš-, from Proto-Turkic *kab-. Cognate with Kazakh қауысу (qauysu), Azerbaijani qovuşmaq, etc.
Verb[edit]
kavuşmak (third-person singular simple present kavuşur)
- to meet, to reach, to achieve
- Biz tüm hedeflerimize kavuştuk. ― We have achieved all our goals.
- to unite (with), to be reunited (with)
- Kayıp çocuğuna dört yıl sonra kavuşacak. ― After four years she will be reunited with her missing child.
Usage notes[edit]
What in English would be the direct object of the sense to meet takes the dative case in Turkish.
