Icelandic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Old Norse kjarf, kerfi (bundle). Compare with Middle High German krēbe (basket), and Sanskrit grapsa- "bundle".[1] Also perhaps akin to Old Saxon crybb (and ergo to Modern English crib).[2]
