From dialectal kurpth ‘clematis’, diminutive of dialectal kurp, kulp ‘clematis’, originally ‘loop’; akin to Lithuanian kìlpa ‘loop’. Cognate to Romanian 'cursă' trap, snare. Related to kulpër ‘clematis’.
