Etymology 1[edit]

From Old Danish quik, qwegh (alive, lively), from Old Norse kvikr, from Proto-Germanic *kwikwaz, cognate with English quick, German quick (from Low German), keck. Doublet of kvik, kæk, and kvaj. The modern use as a noun is an abbreviation of Old Danish qwikfæ, Old Norse kvikfé.
