Etymology[edit]

Either a derivative of mbloj, or from Proto-Albanian *ambi-pletsā, from Proto-Indo-European *pleḱt-t- (to plait). Cognate to Latin plectāre (plait), Old Norse flétta (plait), Old High German flechtan (plait). The semantic development goes from 'to interweave, tie together' to 'to combine' (an engagement).
