Romanian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Possibly from Latin pānic(u)lus (cf. pānicula), or from a derivative of pānicum. Obsolete and found in an old Slavic-Romanian gloss. Its form was either altered by influence from pâine, or a result of an incorrect transcription. Cf. also Old French panil.
