Etymology[edit]

Two etymologies have been proposed:

  1. Inherited from Sanskrit श्वाशुर (śvāśura).[1]
  2. Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀲𑀼𑀭 (sasura), from Sanskrit श्वशुर (śvaśura).[2]
