Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *sel (to sneak, creep). Cognate to Middle Irish seilche (turtle, tortoise, snail), English slug, Lithuanian selù, selėti (slink, sneak into). Perhaps related to the Illyrian tribe of the Seleiitani.[1]
