From Proto-Indo-European *trē̆b, *trōb 'building, dwelling'. Cognate to Ancient Greek θεράπνη (therápnē, dwelling), Latin trabs (balk, beam), Welsh tref (dwelling), Lithuanian trobà (house, edifice, building) and Old English ðorp, ðrop (estate, courtyard, village)[1].
