Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish یخشی (yaḫşı), ultimately a derivation from Proto-Turkic *yak- (good), whence Turkish yakış- (to look good). Doublet of yakışık.

Cognate with Turkmen ýagşy, Crimean Tatar yahşı, Tatar яхшы (yaxşı), Kyrgyz жакшы (jakşı), Kazakh жақсы (jaqsy), Uzbek yaxshi, Uyghur ياخشى (yaxshi), Azerbaijani yaxşı.
