Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Sanskrit यौवन (yauvana). Both Pali and Prakrit 𑀚𑁄𑀯𑁆𑀯𑀡 (jŏvvaṇa) show a change of long vowel + consonant to short vowel + geminate, with Pali then changing /vv/ to /bb/ as usual.[1]
